Personality answers:

1. Who in your character's canon influenced the most growth in your character? What do they think about this character?

While Soundwave was already showing growth by breaking away from Decepticon's old conquering ways, I chose Optimus Prime, who influenced the most growth in him. Optimus challenging Soundwave to read human minds made him realize his error in his view of humans. He thought them to be lesser, until he discovered that human brains are electric, meaning their emotions are just as real as Cybertronians. Overwhelmed with guilt, Soundwave made it his mission to preserve both Cybertronian and human life. It shows in a big way when the humans attacked him; Soundwave never once fought back against them aside from disabling their communication devices, which he then instantly restored when the humans had wounded, sparing their lives. He even personally apologized to humans for what he had done back during Megatron's invasion of Earth.

Thanks to Optimus, Soundwave sees humans on an equal level as Cybertronians and seeks atonement for his crimes, becoming more empathetic in the process.

Initially, Soundwave saw Optimus as being no different than other Primes before him - power-hungry and corrupt. It didn't help that Optimus annexed Earth, then blackmailed Soundwave into joining his alliance. Now Soundwave sees Optimus as an ally, but still feels fundamentally uncomfortable working with him. He is a Prime, their oppressor, but Optimus isn't corrupt, even though he made questionable choices. Soundwave even called him out for blackmailing him in his speech at the end of #57. But through it, he learned that equality doesn't just apply to Cybertronians, but to all sentient life, including humans. He realized that Autobots and Decepticons must put aside their differences and work together for the future, as they are stronger united than they are apart. Though he has conflicting thoughts, he ultimately believes in Optimus' cause and becomes a genuine friend.

2.Explain which event in canon is most pivotal to your character's development, and who they are today.

When Megatron defected to the Autobots, Soundwave became disillusioned with Megatron and the Decepticons. He realized just how far they had fallen and strayed from their original path, becoming something they weren't meant to be. So, he's made efforts to change himself.

To start, he decided the Decepticons return to their original roots - a pacifistic movement - renouncing violence and conquest entirely. When Soundwave brought up the idea of leaving Cybertron and going to Earth for its resources, he quickly rejected the idea of conquering Earth, because, as he put it, "that was Megatron's way". They are starting anew, and their new path is peace. He's doing things differently, more diplomatically and peacefully.

Soundwave wants to build a new home for the Decepticons, and later for anyone, where they can live in peace. As such, it's become important for him to reach out to others. He reached out to humans for an alliance and cooperated with them to build his commune, Sanctuary Station. He knows it's important for him to be sociable too, which means he can't be the silent, cold Decepticon he once was. He was seen interacting with his fellow Decepticons daily, and even went as far as to invite Autobot Cosmos into their new space station. After all, a leader should lead by example. Not with fear, like Megatron did. Soundwave perceived Megatron's defection as him abandoning the Decepticons and giving up on them entirely. Soundwave was unwilling to abandon the Decepticons who fought hard in the war. He gave them all a chance to change for the better and welcomed them to his new Decepticon. If he could change, so could they.

3. What would it take to truly upset your character, enough that they would act upon their feelings? Are they the sort to forgive?

Two things can draw out significant emotional reactions from Soundwave: betrayal and hurting his friends. Soundwave is well-known for his loyalty towards Megatron. He followed him through four million years of war, never wavered in his trust, and risked his own life repeatedly for him because he believed strongly in him. But when Megatron defected to the Autobot, it broke Soundwave. It even made him temporarily irrational, sending Ravage to assassinate Megatron. In another scenario where he isn't explicitly loyal towards someone, Galvatron and a few of his Decepticons betrayed him to conquer Earth, which caused Soundwave to lose his cool and punch a wall. He believed they wanted peace, just as he did, and he got duped for it.

He can get emotional when his friends get hurt, and it's an easy way to get an enraged Soundwave. When Shockwave shot a huge chunk out of Ravage, Soundwave instantly flew into a rage and focus-fired on him. This even extends to humans, given his recent development. Though it hasn't happened in his current canon point, when Soundwave saw Mainframe, his first human friend, dead, he actually cried over the loss.

Forgiveness doesn't come easy, but he doesn't hold grudges, either. It depends on the situation and severity. While he's said nothing about Megatron, it might be safe to say that he likely won't forgive him because the betrayal was deeply personal, but he prefers not to think about him. He continues to be inspired by Megatron's pre-war writings, though. In the case of Galvatron, Soundwave forgave those who followed Galvatron and welcomed them back to his group, even trying to convince Galvatron to stand down and stop the senseless violence.

4. What is your character's biggest ambition at their current canon point? To what lengths would they go to see it to fruition?

To live in a world where true equality shines, free of violence, war, and discrimination. Back during pre-war Cybertron, Soundwave lived under an oppressive caste-system that assigned and organized Cybertronians' status based on their alt-mode. Soundwave, however, was a special case. He's an Outlier, which means he had a special ability unrelated to his alt-mode and was persecuted for it. Soundwave saw how their government treated people like him and the lower classes. He was forced to live on the streets, rejected and ignored by society. It disgusted him, and he hoped for change.

Equality has always been Soundwave's dream, and that hasn't changed today. What has changed is the methods and lengths he was willing to go through to achieve his dream.

In the past, Soundwave made one moral compromise after another. Murder, killing, and even going to war. Anything is on the table for the greater good. Seeing the aftermath of what the war had done to their home and the galaxy, he's since changed his ways. He's still willing to go to great lengths to ensure the Decepticon dream becomes reality, but he will do so without a reliance on violence. He will do what he thinks is right without compromising his morals any longer. That doesn't mean he won't fight anymore, but it will be used as a last resort when all other options are exhausted. One thing he will absolutely not allow is letting others trample upon his newfound freedom.

Powers/Abilities:

Outlier/Empath: Soundwave's Outlier ability is extraordinary hearing. It's so strong he can pick up thoughts and emotions of other people and detect lies. While Soundwave can't move objects with his mind, his power has mutated that he's able to establish a telepathic connection with anyone from a great distance away. Someone calling him from another planet? He can hear them and even converse as if they're in a face-to-face conversation. This ability even allows him to remotely hack without being in the same room. Along the same line, Soundwave can disrupt most forms of radio transmission and communication or force electronics to stop working. He disabled the human communication devices with an EMP bomb he created with his powers, which he also easily restored afterwards all without physically touching any of their devices, and took control of the space bridge in Autobot's spaceship with relative ease.

Combat skills: Soundwave is a skilled combatant after four million years of war, but is better at strategizing and using trickery than being in a straight-up fist fight like Megatron or Optimus Prime. Spying and information gathering are also more his specialty.

Cybertronian medic and engineer: Soundwave has shown to have passable Cybertronian medical knowledge and, to a lesser extent, robotics, having done emergency repairs several times. He rebuilt Megatron's body a few times before, and acted as a temporary medic at times.

Player Goals:

Mainly CR related stuff, delve into his new positive view on humans, and other non-mechanicals to a lesser extent, and the need to open up to others. He has opened himself up to making friends in the comic, but he's still pretty reserved about himself, all things considered. In the comic, we only see Soundwave reach point A (recognized humans are just as real as Cybertronians) straight to point B (has a human best friend) without seeing the in-between. It's why I've taken him from a canon point where he's started opening up to others and wants to explore him befriending humans! Also, it'll be fun to see how he'll cope with the psychological changes that come from his Natural Soul and also the struggle of navigating an organic body.

Long term, spreading Decepticonism or investigating Patho-Gen and looking for secrets? The Decepticon ideal (Or at least Soundwave's idea of the Decepticonism) is the liberation of the people. Being in a different world won't change his belief. If he sees a whiff of discrimination or inequality, he'd want things to change, whether it's raising the lower class standing or lowering the higher class to a more equal footing. Fortunately, he's learned his lessons about violent uprising, so likely won't be starting any riots or violence himself. He might even discourage anyone from thinking about it!

Soul Choice: REPTILIA. Taking inspiration from a chameleon for its ability to blend into its environment! Robot in disguise and all that.

PERSONALITY: Soundwave displays an attitude as one may expect from a Decepticon High Command: aloof, cold, well-spoken but concise, a disregard of any life who are not Cybertronian. Well, most of them are true to a degree, but the aftermath of a four million years war and time on Earth had changed him greatly as a person. For the better.

During the war, Soundwave takes on an icy, cunning, and stoic attitude. This was more out of necessity as the Decepticons aren't a good bunch of people apparently. Constant betrayal, a scientist with their own goal to destroy the universe, and many other fun illegal and criminal activities. Adopting these traits was necessary for him to survive in order to achieve the Decepticon's cause- equality for all Cybertronian. Not only because of the decepticons, but his own telepathic ability costs him a social life and made him a workaholic. With everything he could feel and hear, he has to keep his focus on one goal just to keep himself function properly.

These traits of him being cold and aloof don't necessarily make him an emotionless bot. In fact, and it may be a surprise for those who aren't his close friends, he does possess empathy. And this empathy was what made him turned around completely on organic life, a life he believed is a waste and beneath a mechanical being. Reading a human's mind made him realize that organic and mechanical aren't different after all- both species are able to feel emotions. This also made him realized the horrific crimes he committed against organic creatures and show regret.

Soundwave, at his core, is loyal and idealistic. After experiencing how corrupt Cybertronian government treated those who they deemed useless, Soundwave wished for a future where Cybertronian can be treated as equal. He believed the Decepticon could achieve his dream by overthrowing the government and as such pledged loyalty to the Decepticon cause. Ever since he joined the Decepticon, he had never once faltered, determined, and strongly believed in his leader, Megatron, and the cause. His belief in his leader was changed completely when said leader abandoned him and joined the opposing side without a word to his loyal soldiers, betraying his trust. Despite the betrayal, Soundwave still held strong to his belief and the Decepticon cause.

Two things can get the aloof Soundwave to draw significant emotional response: his friends and betrayal. It's explicitly shown that his friendships and bonds are important to him. Whenever his friend is hurt or damaged, he would quickly come to their aid. Twice in his life, Soundwave breaks his stoic persona and expresses agony when his friends died. Ravage, his closest friend, and a human named Mainframe, the first human friend he knew for less than two years. It doesn't matter to him how long he had known his friends- every one of them is dear to him and he would do anything for them. Plus, befriending a human is a major step forward for Soundwave.

Donning the mantle of leadership, Soundwave has also changed his approach with others. He's now made the attempt to be sociable and make himself out to be a better example of a Decepticon. Heck, he even invited an Autobot, their once enemy, to the Decepticon commune and even extend an offer for them to stay in the commune if he wants to. After all, a leader should lead by example and not by fear.

Overall, Soundwave may come across as a cold and stoic giant robot, but underneath the icy demeanor is a loyal and idealistic empath. Despite the constant setbacks, Soundwave fully believes in what he's fighting for and will never yield down by another until his dream flourish, which he fortunately able to achieve by the end.

Cybertronian: Soundwave is a 30ft tall sentient mechanical being. This makes him VERY durable, hard to kill, and long-lived. He, like any Cybertronian, has the ability to change into an alt mode. His current body frame transforms him into an armored car. He's also equipped with rockets in his boots for flight.

Outlier: Soundwave is a special Cybertronian in that he has a few extra abilities, making him an Outlier. And because an Outlier ability is weird, it's entirely possible for one to develop their ability and have it mutated to be something different.

With that in mind, his hearing is extraordinary, able to hear even a fly sneeze in a bustling city. From his super hearing, it developed him into an empath, enabling him to be able to read minds, emotions, and thoughts from a greater distance. He is able to establish a telepathic connection with anyone from any distance. Someone is on another planet? He could focus on said someone to talk to them like he's in a face-to-face conversation. Though that doesn't mean his telepathy range is unlimited and it could still be disrupted by an outside source. Holomatter avatar: A solid hard-light projection that is connected to a Cybertronian consciousness. They are designed to blend in with non-Cybertronian populace and interact with things smaller than the typical Cybertronian, i.e. human sized things. Like his kind, Soundwave has the ability to create a holomatter avatar.

Hi hello! Note that although in aefenglom Soundwave won't have his telepathic/empathic abilities, he still has his super hearing and his hearings are extraordinarily sensitive. He can hear a fly sneeze in a busy city, so here's a list of things he might be able to hear from your character: heartbeat, eavesdropping from a large distance away, or whatever that will produce sound.

He won't actively eavesdrop on people's convo without reason, but if you would like to opt out of his powers (or even just playing with him), just leave a comment here.

With everything he could feel and hear, he has to keep his focus on one goal just to keep himself function properly. Some of those traits stayed with him after the war's over, the stoic and icy exterior, but for the most part, he's mellowed out.

Despite his outwardly frost demeanor, Soundwave is not an emotionless bot as he might make it out to be. Soundwave, at his core, is the most loyal and idealistic Decepticon. In fact, get to know him, he is generally decent and polite outside the war, and it may be a surprise for those who aren't his close friends, he does possess empathy, as well. And this empathy was what made him turned around completely on organic life, a life he believed is a waste and beneath a mechanical being. Reading a human's mind made him realize that organic and mechanical aren't different after all- both species can feel emotions. Realizing this fact, he surrenders himself to the humans and expresses guilt to all the crimes he had done to other similar organic beings.

Between his time on the Dead End and becoming friends with Ravage, Laserbeak, and Buzzsaw, he had seen firsthand how corrupt the Cybertronian government treated those who they deemed lesser or useless. Disgusted, Soundwave wished for a future where Cybertronian can be treated as equal, but he knows that the government is not willing to give up their power and needed to be destroyed. He believed the Decepticon could achieve his dream and as such pledged loyalty to the Decepticon cause. Ever since he joined the Decepticon, he had never once faltered, determined, and strongly believed in his leader, Megatron, and the cause. His belief in his leader was changed completely when said leader abandoned him and joined the opposing side without a word to his loyal soldier, thus betraying his trust and faith in him. In fact, being betrayed draw a significant emotional response out of him. The Decepticons are brothers and sisters fighting for the same cause, they should be loyal to each other.

There is one key point with Soundwave in the comic series, it is his unwavering faith and his faith in others. As mentioned before, Soundwave believes in the Decepticon cause, he viewed Megatron as the physical embodiment of the cause, followed him through millions of years of war and never once betrayed him. Even when Megatron was gone and others took over, Soundwave waited- and assisted - for his leader's return because he strongly believed in their leader. Even after Megatron's betrayal, Soundwave still has faith that the Decepticon cause would someday come true. While the future is uncertain, he'll marches forward for his dream to come true, despite the difficulties he'll face. As Soundwave himself says after a drink or two: "You have to take some things on faith."

There is one thing other than betrayal that draws significant emotional response out of Soundwave. It is his friends. To him, who was an amnesiac desolate, his friendships and bonds are important to him. Without his friends, he would be left wasting on the street and unable to control his telepathic powers. Whenever his friend is hurt or damaged, he would quickly come to their aid. Twice in his life, Soundwave breaks his stoic persona and expresses agony when his friends died. Ravage, his closest friend, and a human named Mainframe, the first human friend he knew for less than two years. It doesn't matter to him how long he had known his friends- every one of them is dear to him and he would do anything for them and rejects any notion that he's superior to them.

The war ending and Megatron's betrayal were the triggers for him to change for the better. He realized Megatron's flawed way of violence and conquest which had led the Decepticons astray from their original cause. So with that realization in mind, he made the effort to lead the current Decepticon into the path of peace. No longer will they deviated from their original cause and no more conquest. Being the new leader of the Decepticon, Soundwave has also changed his approach with others. He's now made the attempt to be sociable and make himself out to be a better example of a Decepticon. That means reaching out to others for help like forging an alliance with humans on Earth and requested their help to build a space commune for the Decepticon. He even went as far as inviting an Autobot, their once enemy, to the Decepticon commune and even extend an offer for them to stay in the commune if he wants to. After all, a leader should lead by example and not by fear.

Although it took him long even, after his new good nature, Soundwave also realized that humans are not so different than Cybertronians, they're both beings capable of emotions and rational thoughts. And on that note, he now values humans and other organic species' life as much as he does value a Cybertronian's life. This is what drives him to give up his own life to save Earth from destruction, even after his homeworld Cybertron was destroyed.

Abilities & Skills:

Cybertronian: Soundwave is a giant sentient mechanical being. This makes him VERY durable, hard to kill, and long-lived. He, like any Cybertronian, has the ability to change into an alt mode. His current body frame transforms him into an armored car. He's also equipped with rockets in his boots for flight.

Requesting a nerf to his super robot durability. His height will be nerfed down to 7ft tall

Outlier: Soundwave is a special Cybertronian in that he has a few extra innate abilities, thus an Outlier. And because an Outlier ability is weird, it's possible for one to develop their ability and have it mutated to be something different.

With that in mind, Soundwave has extraordinary hearing. He's able to hear even a fly sneeze in a bustling city. From his super hearing, it developed him into an empath, enabling him to be able to read minds, emotions, and thoughts from a greater distance. He can establish a telepathic connection with anyone from any distance. Someone is on another planet? He could focus on said someone to talk to them like he's in a face-to-face conversation. Though that doesn't mean his telepathy range is unlimited and it could still be disrupted by an outside source. Along the same line, Soundwave can disrupt most forms of radio transmission and communication.

His super hearing is biological I'd like to keep that, but requesting nerfs for his more empathetic abilities and his hearing range.

Holomatter: A solid hard-light projection that connects to a Cybertronian consciousness. They are designed to fit in with non-Cybertronian populace and allow for greater stealth. They are capable of tactile interaction and receiving sensory data.

Like every Cybertronian, Soundwave has an in-built that device that can, in theory, make a holomatter avatar. Holomatters avatar's range can function at least 400 miles away from the controller, but long usage of it would quickly drain his fuel or physically damaging the avatar would have equal amount damage on his consciousness and/or possibly burning out the avatar generator.

Reason: Two reasons!
1) Bonds are very important to Soundwave, he's the kind who would protect his friends from harm, do anything for them and rely on another for the strength to get through difficult situations together, his relationship with his casseticons being the best example. Placing him in a role that draws strength from his bonds and using those strengths to strengthen others is definitely something he would do and is perfect for his characterization.

2) Magic was introduced on IDW Transformers universe, but Soundwave didn't have time to look into it at all. I believe it'd be a fun and challenging experience for him to learn something completely new. And since focus is a big part keeping Soundwave from becoming insane hearing people's thoughts all the time, learning magic is a perfect way to manage his focus further.
