Character: Soundwave
Canon: Transformers IDW (brief Jigokucho CRAU)
Age: Over four million years
Background Information: Wiki Link. Soundwave spent three months in Jigoku. In that short stay, Soundwave was stripped off all of his telepathy/mind reading powers, had his height downsized to reasonably human level, and had to cooperate with others who aren't his species or sapient mechs. Thankfully he had cooperated with humans before so it wasn't entirely new, but he was forced to adapt on the other aspects.
Speaking of humans, because he is surrounded by only humans or organics, it meant that he was exposed to human cultures or just humans in general. Though Soundwave had spent a significant amount of time with humans on Earth, it was never outside of the context of an alliance or working on a mission together. He has grown a little curious about learning their culture, even if festival participation might require some to drag him out still.
Personality:
Soundwave displays an attitude expected of a Decepticon High Command: aloof, cold, calculating, well-spoken but concise. These traits were more out of necessity as the Decepticons weren't known for taking care of their own. Their ranks normally consist of criminals, betrayals, and bots only in for their own gain. Adopting these traits helped him to survive n order to achieve the Decepticon's cause- equality for all Cybertronian. His own telepathic ability costs him a social life, not just because of the Decepticons' typical characters, and turned him into a workaholic. With everything he could feel and hear, he has to keep his focus narrow on his goal just to keep himself function properly. But with the civil war over, he's putting in the effort to change for the better, but still stoic and just as cunning if need be.
These traits of him being cold and aloof don't necessarily make him completely emotionless, despite his typical demeanor and the lack of face. In fact, and it may be a surprise for those who aren't his close friends, he does possess empathy. And this empathy was what made him turned his view around entirely on organic life, a life he believed is beneath a mechanical being. Reading a human's mind made him realize that organic and mechanical aren't different after all- humans are capable of emotions. This made him realized the horrific crimes he committed against organic creatures and show regret. Even before the war, his empathy is also what drivers him to fight for a world where equality strived and officially joined the Decepticon- he knew how horrible and discriminatory the government was with treating the lower classes or anyone they deemed lesser. It disgusted him, even when he worked under a Senator.
Soundwave, at his core, is loyal and idealistic. Soundwave wished for a future where Cybertronian can be treated as equal. He believed the Decepticon could achieve his dream and, ever since he joined the faction, had never once faltered in his faith. He's determined and strongly believed in his leader, Megatron, and the cause. His loyalty is to a fault, however, as he doesn't even question any horrible decisions his leader made, even as they strayed off from their original Decepticon path, and was willing to suffer countless injuries or commit atrocities more than he could remember. His belief in his leader, however, was changed completely when said leader abandoned him and joined the opposing side without a word to his loyal soldiers, betraying his trust. But the betrayal is not enough to bring him down. Still held strong to his beliefs and loyalty to the Decepticon cause, he continues onwards to create his own Decepticon path.
Two things can get the aloof Soundwave to draw significant emotional response: his friends and betrayal. It's explicitly shown that his friendships and bonds are important to him. Whenever his friend is hurt or damaged, he would quickly drop whatever he's doing and come to their aid. Twice in his life, Soundwave breaks his stoic persona and expresses agony when his friends died. Ravage, his closest friend, and a human named Mainframe, the first human friend he knew for less than two years. It doesn't matter to him how long he had known his friends- every one of them is dear to him and he would do anything for them. Plus, befriending a human is a major step forward for Soundwave.
A leader should lead by example and not by fear. It was a lesson Soundwave learned after Megatron's betrayal and realizing the flawed way of violence and conquest had led the Decepticons astray from their original cause. With that realization, he made the effort to lead the current Decepticon and mold them back to their original purpose: peace. No more conquest and violence. Soundwave has also changed how he approaches others. He's now made the attempt to be sociable and make himself out to be a better example of a Decepticon. One big example is him inviting Cosmos, an Autobot, their once enemy for millions of years, to the Decepticon commune and even extend an offer for them to stay in the commune if he wanted to.
Abilities & Inventory:
Soundwave is a 30ft tall sentient mechanical being. This makes him VERY durable, hard to kill, and long-lived. He, like any Cybertronian, has the ability to change into an alt mode. His current body frame transforms him into an armored car. He's also equipped with rockets in his boots for flight. Just so he isn't in that extreme height in game, he's going to be 10ft tall, outside of dreamscapes maybe.
Outlier: Soundwave is a special Cybertronian in that he has a few extra abilities, making him an Outlier. And because an Outlier ability is weird, it's entirely possible for one to develop their ability and have it mutated to be something different.
With that in mind, his hearing is extraordinary, able to hear even a fly sneeze in a bustling city. From his super hearing, it developed him into an empath, enabling him to be able to read minds, emotions, and thoughts from a greater distance. He is able to establish a telepathic connection with anyone from any distance. Someone is on another planet? He could focus on said someone to talk to them like he's in a face-to-face conversation. Though that doesn't mean his telepathy range is unlimited and it could still be disrupted by an outside source. Along the same line, Soundwave can disrupt most form of radio transmission and communication.
Holomatter avatar: A solid hard-light projection that is connected to a Cybertronian consciousness. They are designed to blend in with non-Cybertronian populace and interact with things smaller than the typical Cybertronian, i.e. human sized things. Like his kind, Soundwave has the ability to create a holomatter avatar. Although the holoavatar is technically a projection, Soundwave is still able to 'feel' his surroundings by way of information feedback being sent back to his real body. That also means any damages or injuries made to the avatar can also be sent back to Soundwave, and anything major could have him suffer significant damage to his brain module or/and potentially his hologenerator burning off. Also holoavatar can bleed. Why it even bleeds, who knows. It just works.
Suitability & Plans: Soundwave at this canon point had already made effort to change himself and how he approached others. Though still awkward socially, at least he isn't just not interacting with people or outright brush people off immediately if they attempt to have any small talks with him. He understood the importance to at least try to reach out to others and be a little bit sociable. Additionally, he has learned his lesson about organic life and not looked at them to be lesser than mechs. So, he can manage himself just fine interacting with humans or any other non-mechanical people, and thanks to his time on Jigoku, has already adapted to not being around his Cybertronian kind.
My interest is mostly in exploring bonds and relationships, particularly with those who aren't his own species. While canon did show that Soundwave was open to new bonds and friendships after the war, it didn't explore much on how he became close friend with a human, as it happened mostly off-screen, and I wanted to tackle that in the game. He's still fairly reclusive, and due to the recent event of his closest friends death, make him somewhat reluctant with getting close or open to someone ever again at first just to avoid the hurt again. But with the way dreamotion and sharing dream works means that he couldn't keep his feelings to himself forever. He'll need to learn to trust and confide in people again, especially to allow his dreamotion abilities to with help other's success.
Some lighthearted events or having to deal with shenanigans would do good with him since he never really catch a moment of break in canon.
